More than just Wine

Bilbao-Rioja represents a perfect symbiosis between urban modernity and winemaking tradition. This region combines the vibrant culture of Bilbao, with its iconic Guggenheim Museum, and the centuries-old wine landscapes of La Rioja, where the history of Spanish wine has been written for over 2000 years.

The Denomination of Origin Qualified Rioja (DOCa Rioja) is the oldest in Spain and one of the most prestigious in the world. Its more than 65,000 hectares of vineyards stretch along the Ebro River, creating a unique landscape where the vine has been cultivated since Roman times.

In La Rioja, we find 3 main areas:
Rioja Alta: Known for its elegant and aromatic wines
Rioja Alavesa: Noted for its structured and complex wines
Rioja Oriental: Produces full-bodied and concentrated wines

Architecture and Wine

The region has masterfully combined winemaking tradition with cutting-edge architecture. Centuries-old wineries coexist with revolutionary designs by world-renowned architects, creating a landscape where history and modernity engage in perfect harmony.

Gastronomy

The region offers an exceptional culinary experience that combines the renowned Basque cuisine with the excellent wines of Rioja. The pintxos of Bilbao and the fine dining of its Michelin-starred restaurants create perfect pairings with the local wines.

Innovation and Tradition

While maintaining its traditional production methods, the region is at the forefront of winemaking innovation. Wineries are implementing sustainable technologies and modern winemaking techniques, always respecting the essence and quality that have made the region famous.

From Casablanca to Bilbao-Rioja

From our Casablanca Valley, we recognize a similar spirit of innovation and respect for tradition in Bilbao-Rioja. Although our terroirs are different, we share a passion for creating wines that express the authenticity of our respective regions.

As a prominent member of the Great Wine Capitals network, Bilbao-Rioja continues to evolve while maintaining its essence. The region demonstrates how winemaking tradition can adapt to modern times without losing its authenticity, becoming a model for wine regions around the world.
